Algaida
Algaida

In the agricultural hinterland Algaida is typical of the Mallorcan villages dotted around the central plain and whilst only small, still has a reasonable selection restaurants and sufficient amenities. Algaida’s main characteristic is distinctly untouristy. There are no souvenir shops or busy high streets, mainly because Algaida is not on the map for any geographic or historical importance. This lends the village a charm of it’s own, a perfect place to remove oneself from the madding crowd and take in the local life, best displayed in the Friday market when all the locals meet to buy and sell their produce. One little known gem is the chapel at Castellix, the first built on Mallorca that lies ‘twixt Algaida and Randa. Whilst not open to the public, the chapel is consecrated and it is possible to obtain a key from the parish priest!
