The ancient town of Pollença with its famous churches and Calvario is sited below the Puig Maria on the plains, just inland from Port de Pollença. Steeped in history, the old town has much to interest the discerning traveller with an excellent selection of restaurants and bars which serve the local community and can provide a taste of the “real” Mallorca to visitors. It is an ideal base for the walker, birdwatcher, painter or just the straightforward holidaymaker wishing for more authentic surroundings. The more popular port lies in the Bay of Pollença on the north side of the island and is sheltered by an impressive mountain range. Ideally situated for family holidays, away from the crowded beaches and discos of other resorts, it offers clean, sandy beaches with clear waters and plenty of up-market bars and restaurants.
